FREE Summer Activities for RPS Students!

This summer, RPS students can learn something new, build friendships and explore new interests! Check out the options below and register separately for each activity. Space is limited, so sign up soon! Note: students must be enrolled in Richfield Public Schools to register for these programs. *

Learn to Fish, Ages 8-15: Students will meet at Taft Park by the accessible dock and participate in a 2-hour learn to fish class, all equipment will be provided.

  • Date: August 11 and August 18
  • Taft Park Fishing Dock (1800 # 63rd St)
  • Maximum 15 students per session
    • Session 1: August 11, 10 a.m.-noon (register)
    • Session 2: August 11, 1-3 p.m. (register)
    • Session 3: August 18, 10 a.m.-noon (register)
    • Session 4: August 18, 1-3 p.m. (register)

DASH Summer Multi-Sport Camp, Ages 9-14: DASH Sports summer multi-sport camp includes fun skills training and games in three sports: soccer, flag football and basketball. Campers should bring a water bottle, snack, athletic shoes and athletic clothing. All equipment is provided.

DASH Summer Multi-Sport Camp, Ages 5-8: DASH Sports summer multi-sport camp includes fun skills training and games in three sports: soccer, flag football and basketball. Campers should bring a baseball glove, sunscreen, water bottle, snack and athletic shoes and clothing. Balls and other equipment are all provided.

DASH Sports Pickleball Camp, Ages 9-14: Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. DASH Sports pickleball camps provide participants with an introductory experience to the game in a fun and positive atmosphere. Participants should bring a pickleball paddle, water bottle, wear athletic clothing and bring a snack. Balls and all other equipment are provided.

Prairie Fire Theater: Pinocchio, Ages 7-16: Join Prairie Fire Theater for a one-week intensive theater camp that will culminate in a show for family and friends to enjoy. Auditions take place on the first day to determine roles.

  • Times: Morning rehearsal and call times between 8 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. each day

Family Nights at the Richfield Outdoor Pool: Join other RPS families for a family night at the pool! Richfield Public School students who pre-register get in free. All ages are welcome, but students under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (parent/guardian admission will be covered by the City of Richfield).

Family Ice Skating Night: Join other Richfield families for a family night of skating. Richfield Public School students who pre-register get in free. All ages are welcome, but students under the age of 12 must be with an adult. (parent/guardian admission will be covered by the City of Richfield).

Urban Wildland 5K Race: The Urban Wildland Half Marathon is a beautiful circular course that is centrally located in the Twin Cities. This course runs through Richfield's urban neighborhoods and seven city parks featuring Wood Lake with its woodsy trails around the lake. The half marathon is a certified course.

* These classes and programs are offered free of charge to students enrolled in Richfield Public School through funds from the American Rescue Plan that were designated to support summer educational programming. 


Summer School

Our summer school program is designed to engage students in science-based, experiential learning aligned to rigorous standards through fun, hands-on activities. 

Elementary Students (finishing grades K-4):

  • 2022 program dates: June 20 through July 21 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. (no classes July 4-7). 
    • Summer school is held Monday through Thursday.
    • Friday field trips are available through Beacons and Richfield Community Education. These field trips are free, however there are no buses on Fridays. Limited spaces are available. Register through Beacons or Community Education (listed below).
    • After school care from 2-5:30 p.m. is available through Beacons Monday through Friday.
  • Eligibility: Our summer school program is designed to help students accelerate their learning in order to be grade-level ready and for high school students to recover missing credits. Students in grades K-4 who are eligible for summer school will be notified by school staff starting in April. 
  • School will be located at Richfield STEM Elementary.
  • Both academic and enrichment programming are available.
  • Breakfast and lunch served.

Middle School Students (finishing grades 5-7):

  • 2022 program dates: June 20 through July 21 (no classes July 4-7). 
    • Academic program: 8:45 a.m.-1:20 p.m.
    • Enrichment program through Beacons (optional): 1:20-2:45 p.m.
    • Summer school is held Monday through Thursday.
    • Friday field trips are available through Beacons and Richfield Community Education. These field trips are free, however there are no buses on Fridays. Limited spaces are available. Register through Beacons or Community Education (listed below).
  • Eligibility: Summer school in Richfield Public Schools is designed to help students accelerate their learning in order to be grade-level ready and for high school students to recover missing credits. Students in grades 5-7 who are eligible for summer school will be notified by school staff starting in April. 
  • Summer school will be located at Richfield Middle School.
  • Fun, hands-on math, language arts and social emotional learning.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Incoming Freshmen (finishing grade 8):

  • Students completing grade 8 and heading to Richfield High School in the fall should attend Spartan Camp instead of summer school (details below).
  • 2022 program dates: 
    • June 20 through July 14 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (no program July 4-7).
    • Spartan Camp is held Monday through Thursday.

High School Students (finishing grades 9-12):

  • 2022 program dates:
    • June 20 through July 28 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (no program July 4-7).
    • Summer school is held Monday through Thursday.
  • Eligibility: Summer school in Richfield Public Schools is designed to help students accelerate their learning in order to be grade-level ready and for high school students to recover missing credits. Students in grades 9-12 who are eligible for summer school will be notified in May. 
  • On-site summer school will be located at Richfield High School.
  • Credit recovery options are available.
  • Independent study with online courses, supported by a licensed teacher.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Spartan Camp

Eligible students who will be starting at Richfield High School as freshmen this fall are invited to Spartan Camp! Spartan Camp meets at Richfield High School. Here's what you need to know:

  • Program runs June 20 through July 14 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (no program July 4-7).
  • Spartan Camp is held Monday through Thursday. We do not meet on Fridays.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Goals:

  • Focus on relationship building
  • Building and staff connections
  • Reading strategies and study skills
  • Students may earn .5 elective credit

Transportation:

  • Bus transportation is available for students enrolled in summer school.
  • Transportation information will be provided to eligible families along with summer school details.

Richfield Community Education

A variety of summer activities are planned for all ages: preschool, elementary, teen, family and adult. The districtwide community education catalog is delivered to all school district residents and available online for registration. Participation is open to anyone, regardless of the school they attend or where they live.

Beacons

The Richfield Beacons program is offering a summer program in partnership with the RPS summer school program this year.  Breakfast, lunch and snacks are included. 

Programs include: Sports, Yoga, Financial Literacy, Cooking Club, STEAM activities, Literacy Fun, Games, Arts & Crafts, DIY Fun and more!

Elementary Students (finishing grades K-4):

  • Programs are offered during the day and after school for students attending summer school. 
  • Located at Richfield STEM Elementary.

Middle School Students (finishing grades 5-7):

  • Programs are offered during the afternoon and on Fridays for students attending summer school. 
  • Located at Richfield Middle School.

Incoming Freshmen (finishing grade 8):

  • Welcome freshmen! You will attend the Beacons program during Spartan Camp.

High School Students (finishing grades 9-12):

  • Program runs during the day.
  • Located at Richfield High School.
