Meet Our New Principal

Dear Sheridan Hills Community,

I am excited to announce the selection of Yvette Garcia as the new principal at Sheridan Hills Elementary School.

Principal Garcia brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educational equity, student achievement and fostering strong community connections. With over 20 years in education, she has served as an elementary teacher, peer coach, assistant principal and principal. Throughout her career, she has been a champion for culturally responsive teaching, restorative practices and creating positive school cultures where all students thrive.

As the principal of Bay View Elementary in Santa Cruz, California, she led efforts to strengthen literacy intervention programs, increase professional development opportunities for staff and build meaningful relationships with students, families and the broader school community.

Principal Garcia holds a master’s degree in education from the University of California, Berkeley, and has completed extensive training in equity-focused leadership, instructional coaching and data-driven decision-making. She is passionate about supporting students academically, socially and emotionally, and she is eager to bring her skills and experience to the Sheridan Hills community.

"I am honored to serve as the next principal of Sheridan Hills Elementary School," said Principal Garcia. "I look forward to building strong relationships with students, staff and families as we work together to create an inclusive, engaging and high-achieving learning environment for all."

Principal Garcia will officially begin her role on July 1, 2025, although you may see her before. Look for information on family meet & greet events later this spring.

Please join me in welcoming Principal Yvette Garcia to Sheridan Hills Elementary School!

Sincerely,
Superintendent Steven Unowsky
